Understanding English language teaching as a dynamic social practice, the collection engages students by involving them in the construction of knowledge that contributes to active citizenship and promotes cultural exchange among different English speakers.

differential

The collection is intentionally designed to foster a practical use of the English language by both teachers and students, with a focus on contexts involving non-native speakers. This approach embraces variation in pronunciation and spelling across different countries.

The proposed texts and activities guide students through reflection, communication, and interaction in a world shaped by language. The collection is grounded in a dynamic, ongoing view of learning. It also acknowledges that students and educational settings are diverse, and each learner follows their own unique learning path.

key strenghts

The collection is structured around the four language skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. These skills are not treated in isolation, but rather as interconnected dimensions of real-life social practices

highlights

  • Transversal themes grounded in real-world issues, combining skills and competencies with problem-solving approaches. Examples include topics such as economy, environment, health, and citizenship.

  • Development of multiliteracies and application of computational thinking through the Research in Action section, which encourages an investigative mindset and the ability to identify and solve problems relevant to students’ lives.

  • Interdisciplinary learning as a way to overcome fragmentation and connect knowledge across subjects. English becomes a means to explore content from various curricular areas, giving new meaning to what students learn.

  • Use of portfolios to document students’ written production in different formats throughout the collection, such as social media posts, magazine articles, web pages, and scrapbooks.

  • Socio-interactional approach that values pair work and collaborative learning. Tasks often involve working in pairs or small groups, fostering classroom discussion and cooperation.

  • Vocabulary development focuses on both understanding and producing language, in writing and speaking. Vocabulary is not treated in isolation, but integrated through sections like Vocabulary Corner, Let’s Play, and Learning Strategies.

In a globalized world, mastering the English language is essential for students’ holistic development. With this in mind, New Alive High, the latest series from SM Educação, fully aligned with Brazil’s New High School model and the BNCC (National Common Curricular Base), offers teachers and students a solid and contemporary path to language learning.

The series develops the competencies and skills outlined by the BNCC, promoting critical language use across different contexts while working on listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

New Alive High also integrates knowledge from the Languages field and connects it to other areas of learning, enabling students to engage in experiences that reflect their everyday lives.
